Groups of 10 or more people need to book their visit with us in advance. This is to make sure that we can accommodate your group on the day you would prefer to visit. Please note that students under 18 must be accompanied by one adult per 10 students.

Self-led tours
Group size: up to 25 people.

On a self-led tour, you and your group are free to explore the galleries and play with the interactives at your own pace. The maximum number of people on a self-led tour at one time is 25 people. If you have more than 25 people in your group, please allow 30 minutes in between bookings. We require at least 7 days notice for self-led tour bookings.

Self-led groups can download and print our Oxford Through Time worksheet to bring with them during their visit. We can also arrange to print copies ready for your arrival (with at least 7 days notice), for a cost of £1 per copy.

Please fill out our booking form to submit a booking enquiry for a self-led tour. A member of our team will confirm whether your preferred date and time is available and you will be sent a payment link to make advance payment for your booking. Please note that bookings are not confirmed until payment has been made. We require payment at least 7 days in advance of your booking. We may refuse entry to your group if your booking has not been paid for in advance.

The maximum number of people on a self-led tour at one time is 25. This number includes group leaders and supervisors. All members of the group should be paid for (students and supervisors). Please ensure to include this when booking or you may be charged extra on the day. If you bring more than 25 people in a group, we may refuse your group entry to the Museum.
If you are planning to bring more than 25 people to the museum, we ask that you split up your groups and leave 30 minutes in between bookings. For example, one group of 25 people can book a self-led tour at 1pm, and another group of 25 people can book a self-led tour at 1.30pm. If you bring more than 25 people to the Museum at one time, we may refuse your group entry. Please note that we do not have any waiting areas.

Self-led tours are free for schools and FE colleges in Oxfordshire. Just make sure to book in advance using the booking form to make sure that we can accommodate your class. We hope that you enjoy your time at the museum and learn more about Oxford’s rich history. While you are on-site, we ask all visitors to follow our Group Guidelines. These rules are in place to make your visit as pleasant as possible and to ensure the safety of our exhibitions and objects. They are obligatory for all visitors.
