13 brown hare carboard puppets on a light blue background. They are positioned so it looks like they are leaping.

In 2025, we collaborated with facilitator Kate Castleden on creative workshops for families and older adults, inspired by groundbreaking public art and climate change action project THE HERDS. Participants had the opportunity to create their own brown hare puppet while exploring the place of this familiar animal in our natural environment and considering the impacts of a changing climate.

If you missed our puppet-making sessions in May, or want to have another go at crafting your own brown hare, you can now find an easy guide below.

About THE HERDS: a public art and climate action on an unprecedented scale – an ambitious coming together of culture and climate. From April to August 2025, life-size puppet animals will travel a 20,000km route from the Congo Basin to the Arctic Circle, symbolizing their flight from climate disaster. Key stops include Kinshasa, Lagos, Dakar, Marrakesh, Casablanca, Madrid, Barcelona, Marseille, Arles, Paris, Venice, Manchester, London, Aarhus, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Trondheim, culminating in a final event in the Arctic Circle.
