‘A Way of Life’: the people behind St Giles Fair – show and tell

Loading Events

“It’s a way of life…”

Have you ever wondered who actually runs the fair? Travelling showmen and women earn their livelihoods by taking rides and amusements to funfairs all around the country. It’s more than a profession; it’s a whole social structure and a way of life.

In this unique event, people from the showmen’s community will generously share their personal archives and stories to shed a light on their culture and heritage.

Attendees are also encouraged to bring their own stories, photos or objects which relate to St Giles Fair (or other Oxfordshire fairs), which you’ll be able to share with others.

Refreshments will be served. It will be an informal event with an opportunity to ask questions and share your own memories.

The event will take place on Saturday 10 August, 2.30-4pm, at the Museum of Oxford.

Booking strongly advised. Book your tickets here.

We strive to be an accessible museum. You can read access related information here: https://museumofoxford.org/plan-your-visit/access
